Walden Moves Further Right; It's Time for Him to GO!
Per The Oregonian (August 29), Greg Walden will become Chair of the Republican National Congressional Committee this fall. This means Walden can no longer pretend to be a centrist. Issues such as women's reproductive rights, voter suppression laws, and Medicare would be held hostage by the extreme right. He could well be vulnerable at last because of the negative Republican agenda.
In addition Walden is head of their Presidential Leadership Team in Oregon for the Romney/Ryan campaign. With Ryan coming to Oregon on September 10th we must ACT NOW! Read the full article here, and get involved today in one of the most critical and exciting Congressional Races in our own 2nd CD! Bring your ideas, your fervor and dedication and help us in phone banking, canvassing and in any way you feel you can make a difference.
Support the Joyce Segers "Putting Citizens First" campaign by contacting Volunteer Coordinator, Kathleen Connair-Rau at teamsegers2012.kathleen@gmail.com or through the Segers campaign at 541-601-1100, www.segersforcongress.org

Scam Alert from the office of Attorney General Ellen Rosenblum
Watch out for Medical card scams.
AG Rosemblum reminds Oregon consumers never to share their personal or financial information with anyone by email or over the phone. The Oregon Department of Justice has seen a recent influx in reports from senior citizens who received unsolicited telephone calls regarding updates to their medical cards. The scam artist behind these calls will then ask for the consumer's bank account and/or routing number in order to process the update. Click here to read her report. You can also register for the Scam Alert Hotline on the Oregon DOJ site.

Stand for Women with the Democratic Party and Debbie Wasserman Schultz, Chair, DNC
In a year that has brought us no shortage of stunningly backward statements from Republicans on issues affecting women's health, the GOP Senate nominee from Missouri may have just taken the cake. If you're outraged at the Republicans trying to take women back to the dark ages, sign the DNC petition here.

Ten Things You Need to Know About Paul Ryan's Radical Agenda
Most people aren't aware of just how radical it really is. Read MoveOn's list here.
Join Harry Reid to protect Medicare and Social Security
"Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney recently chose his running mate -- and in doing so, made it abundantly clear that 2012 will decide the future of Medicare. Congressman Paul Ryan of Wisconsin is the new Republican candidate for vice president. He's the man who wrote the House's disastrous "Ryan Budget" that would, among other things, end Medicare as we know it for future generations of seniors."

Meet the Final Six of Howard Dean's Dozen
"The Dean Dozen" is Democracy For America's (DFA) highest level of endorsement.
We reserve this endorsement for 12 candidates who will be leaders in the next Congress, who will champion our shared progressive values, and fight for the middle class instead of the one percent." They are:
- Annie Kuster (NH-02)
- Raul Ruiz (CA-36)
- Manan Trivedi (PA-06)
- Elizabeth Warren (MA-Sen)
- Mazie Hirono (HI-Sen)
- Tammy Baldwin (WI-Sen)
These progressive leaders could be the difference between Speaker Boehner and Speaker Pelosi -- and between Majority Leader Reid and Majority Leader McConnell. Click here to join the campaign.
STOP A.L.E.C.
The American Legislative Exchange Council has successfully promoted voter ID legislation that has the potential to disenfranchise up to 5 million voters.
That's why CREDO is joining their friends at Color of Change and a growing coalition of civil rights and environmental organizations in calling on Duke Energy to end its support of this right wing organization. Urge Duke Energy to stop funding A.L.E.C.; read more and sign the CREDO petition here.

Citizens for Peace and Justice Film Night Presents: MORRISTOWN: In Air and Sun
Tuesday, September 4, 7 p.m., Medford Central Library Adams Room, 205 S. Central Ave
Citizens for Peace & Justice will present a discussion-provoking documentary film by Anne Lewis called Morristown: In Air and Sun. The film is free and the public is invited to view it on large screen in the Adams Room. A facilitated discussion will follow the showing of the film.
From a 2011 review of the film from the Knoxville News Sentinel:
"The film documents the loss of jobs in Morristown (Tenn.) to immigrant workers and factories moving to Mexico from 1991 to 2006. Filmmakers also traveled to Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua, and Los Martínez, Guanajuato, Mexico, with native East Tennesseans who had lost their jobs because of the changes. The Tennessee workers quiz factory bosses and visit with Mexican workers who have been hired for a fraction of what the East Tennesseans had earned.
Yet the film ends with mostly immigrant poultry workers organizing a union at Koch Foods in Morristown.
Early in her career, Lewis served as associate director and assistant camerawoman on the film "Harlan County U.S.A.," which won the Academy Award for Best Documentary in 1977 before making her own films, including "Fast Food Women," "Justice in the Coalfields" and "Belinda."
The hour-long "Morristown" grew out of another project called "From the Mountains to the Maquiladoras." The Maquiladoras is the border area between the United States and Mexico.
"The Highlander Center and a group called TIRN (Tennessee Industrial Renewal Network) became very concerned that there was a new kind of racism coming down the pike in response to, particularly, Mexican workers," says Lewis. "And that was before there was any mass migration into the Morristown area."
The groups organized exchange trips for U.S. workers down to Mexico to see what had happened to their jobs and get some understanding about what Mexican workers' lives were like."
CPJ typically shows films on the first Tuesday evening of each month. Our October offering will be HEIST: Who Stole the American Dream? at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 2. HEIST explores the reasons behind the 2008 collapse of Wall Street and lays the blame on government deregulation of big banks.
CPJ will not have a film on the first Tuesday of November because that is election day. Please see our website at www.cpjmedford.org for more information on our organization and our films.
SO Pride Weekend, October 11 - 14

Support Bradley Manning by attending VFP rally September 6th
Veterans for Peace chapters around the nation will be taking similar messages to President Obama on Thursday, September 6, at about the time Obama will begin his acceptance speech at the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte. VFP members and all who support Bradley Manning will go to Obama campaign offices and deliver letters demanding that the president pardon and free Bradley Manning, who faces court martial and life in prison for allegedly providing video and data to WikiLeaks about the U.S. conduct of the wars in Iraq, Afghanistan and Pakistan, including revealing many war crimes and immoral acts on the part of our military and diplomatic corps.
Because there is no official Obama campaign office in our vicinity, Veterans for Peace - Rogue Valley Chapter 156 invites you to join its rally at 5 p.m. Thursday, September 6, outside the Jackson County Democratic Headquarters, 40 S. Central Ave., in downtown Medford. Join us!
If you can’t be at the rally, you can still help support the defense of Bradley Manning by contributing to the Bradley Manning Support Network by clicking on: http://www.bradleymanning.org/ and then click on the Donate button.
