Blue Bash Planning Underway
Yes, we're already making plans for the Jackson County Democrats Blue Bash on election night, November 6, at the Historic Ashland Armory. Mark your calendars! We need YOUR help! We are looking for a vacation home or timeshare that we can use as the Grand Prize for the drawing, which helps us raise approximately $5,000 in the election year to cover the cost of supporting local, state and national candidates and important issues on the ballot.
Do you have anything you can donate to this fabulous cause? If yes, please contact the JCD fundraising committee at firstname.lastname@example.org. Thank you!
Help the "Lift All Dems" Blue Crew Phone Project

To volunteer, call (541) 858-1050 or send an email to email@example.com. Scripts, talking points and training provided. The voting lists have been updated, we're putting the calling packets together, and having a training session August 5th, 3 p.m. at the HQ office. Join us. It will be fun.

Senator Merkley Attempts a "Bring the Jobs Home" Bill
Keep At It Jeff!
He reports, "I have heard from many Oregonians who are outraged that companies can actually receive tax deductions for expenses related to shipping jobs overseas. I share this outrage, which is why I co-sponsored the Bring Jobs Home Act. It would eliminate the perverse tax incentives that encourage companies to outsource, and also add a new 20 percent tax credit for expenses related to moving jobs back to America.
"Unfortunately, as happens far too often in the Senate, the Senate minority was able to use a filibuster to prevent the Senate from even considering this bill. Please know that I will continue fighting for policies that create jobs here at home, rather than rewarding companies that ship them overseas."

For example, read about Senator Wyden's bill to combat foreign duty evasion. "When we talk about duty evasion what we are really talking about is merchandise laundering," Wyden said. "Foreign exporters of goods coming into this country have been using unscrupulous practices to avoid U.S. trade laws, undercutting U.S. manufacturers and costing the nation jobs." Time to Ban Assault Weapons - Again!
Urge President Barack Obama and Governor Mitt Romney to ask Congress to reinstate the expired federal assault weapons ban. Sign the CREDO petition here.
Join the Democratic Governors' Association petition to stop voter suppression
According to a new report that looked at 10 states with new voting restrictions, one in 10 eligible voters do not have the proper photo ID required to cast a ballot. That's millions of eligible voters in battleground states whose right to vote could be in jeopardy due to these new laws passed by Republicans. Republican attempts at voter suppression are having their desired effect, but we still have time to fight back. Sign the petition here.
Vote "NO" on Deregulation
Corporate cronies in Congress are trying this week to pass H.R. 4078, a corporate lobbyist's wish list of deregulation.
If passed, it would halt new environmental, food safety, financial safety, worker safety and consumer product safety standards — not to mention interminably stall already-delayed Wall Street reforms. Read more about this issue and sign Public Citizen's petition here.
Or- better yet - call our Representative, Greg Walden. His Washington office phone number is 202-225-6730. His local office is 541-776-4646.

The races are tight. For instance:
In Massachusetts it's Elizabeth Warren: 46 to Scott Brown: 46
In Nevada it's Shelley Berkley: 43 to Dean Heller: 44
And in two other critical Senate races, recent polling also shows both Claire McCaskill (MO) and Tammy Baldwin (WI) are in a dead heat with their potential opponents.
"Our Changing Climate: What's Going to Happen 'Here', and What Can I Do About It?"
Monday, August 6, 7PM in Science Hall Room 118 on the Southern Oregon University campus
This is an event for the entire Rogue Valley Community, young, older, and in between. Seven specialists will address what it will mean for all of us, our children, and beyond as our climate changes over the next 20-50 years. Learn how the anticipated global and local changes will affect local lives and businesses (think agriculture, human disease, and recreational changes to start). We will invite the audience to join a responsible grass roots organization whose purpose will be for all of us to work together to learn how to adjust to anticipated changes and teach individuals what they may do in their day-to-day lives to reduce climate change impacts. For further information please contact the M.C., Ray Seidler (email email@example.com), or call 541-601-9955. More details about the program and speakers can be seen here.
Send Patrick to Charlotte
Patrick was selected at our recent delegate convention as the one man from the southern part Congressional District #2 (Klamath Falls, Jackson and Josephine Counties). He is also an LGBT delegate. He has secured his plane ticket, now he needs room and board. Attending this convention is especially important to the LGBT community because marriage equality may be on the Democratic Platform; an historic event. If you can help, make a contribution to Patrick Vroman, savings account, at Rogue Federal Credit Union. He's part way there; we can send him all the way.
